We are reaching out to you once again, as a hardworking family from Viljandi County needs help to get electricity in their home.

A few years ago, Marjata and Reio bought an old, broken-down house and have, with their own hands, made it livable. They have done an enormous amount of work – repairing the roof, walls, windows, and interior spaces. They have not given up, despite periods of unemployment and the difficult conditions of the place they moved into.

🙏 A huge thank you to Wallester AS, MTÜ Aitan Eestit, and all donators who have supported us before – thanks to your help, this family has already taken a very big step forward.

However, the house still has no electricity.

The family turned to Elektrilevi and the local municipality. Elektrilevi’s initial response was that they only provide a price offer and that everything else falls under the municipality’s responsibility. The initial offer from Elektrilevi was approximately €13,000.

Together with our NGO, a significantly more affordable solution was found, and the cable installation was coordinated with the municipality. We managed to fund this major work thanks to donators, Wallester, and MTÜ Aitan Eestit. But now, after the cable has been purchased and installed into the ground—meeting all European and Estonian legal requirements and certifications—Elektrilevi is demanding that the entire work be redone by them. The new price is approximately €16,000.

Unfortunately, the local municipality cannot support this project, as they lack the means and capacity. Their response was:
– connecting to the electricity grid is not considered a supported activity
– social support is not granted for such expenses

The result: the family is still without electricity.

Currently, they rely only on power banks and a small solar panel, which is not enough for normal living.

The father has found a job, and the mother is looking for work, but their income goes toward daily necessities, raising their children, and covering old debts.

In a small village in Central Estonia lives Riina (name changed to protect the family from local scrutiny and school bullying), a single mother of seven who is asking for our help. The family’s three oldest children are simultaneously studying and working in different Estonian cities, trying to support their mother as much as possible, though they often need her support in return. Four younger children are still growing up at home, the youngest of whom is only two years old.

Riina is a woman who has been through fire and water and refuses to give up despite the hardships life has thrown her way. She is a caring and loving mother who has managed on her own until now, despite the fact that the children’s fathers have fallen on hard times and provide no financial support. Having escaped two abusive relationships, Riina must raise and protect her seven children alone.

As is often the case, troubles rarely come alone. The mother fell ill and was granted partial work ability due to a back condition. Furthermore, their current residence in a three-bedroom rental apartment is dangerous for the family: the apartment is cold, damp, and drafty. Because the neighboring apartments are empty and unheated, the windows are constantly fogged up, and the corners of the ceilings and windowsills are moldy. The children are frequently sick and must wear thick woollen clothes indoors and sleep under multiple blankets.

Riina decided to find a new rental apartment where these problems would not exist. The new home is warm, but unfortunately, it is completely unfurnished. Additionally, it turned out that the owner of the current apartment is demanding a contractual penalty equal to three months’ rent because the notice period was not followed. When signing the contract, Riina could not have foreseen this, as she believed it was a decent home where the family could live for a long time.

Riina has turned to us with a request for both legal and material assistance—as well as food, children’s clothes, and essential household items. If anyone has used furniture or clothing to spare, it would be a huge help.

We need help with the following items and costs:

• Financial support: €1,600 (to cover the contractual penalty and moving costs).

• Furniture and interior items:

  • Wardrobes (1–2 units, with shelves and hanging rails)

  • A narrow shoe cabinet or hallway unit with hooks and shelves

  • A large floor mirror

  • 3 chests of drawers (2 smaller and 1 larger for bedding, towels, and laundry)

  • A desk (with 3 drawers)

  • Desk lamps

  • 1 child’s bed and 1 crib for a small child (with removable bars)

  • A thin mattress topper for a sofa

  • Four nightstands for the children

  • A small table and chair for the two-year-old

  • A low TV stand

  • Rugs/carpets to make the floors warmer

  • Warm blankets (160×200 or 200×220)

• Clothing and footwear (for the spring season):

  • Mother: Boots (size 41) and a spring/autumn jacket (size XL)

  • Girl (13 yrs): Spring jacket (Women’s S / 165 cm) and spring boots (size 40)

  • Girl (10 yrs): Spring jacket (size 146), spring boots (size 37–38), and formal shoes for performances

  • Younger child (2 yrs, size 92–98, sturdier build, shoe size 22): Tracksuits, T-shirts, socks. Long-sleeved sleepers/onesies (size 98) are also welcome.

• Other supplies:

  • Groceries for this month

  • Three bicycles in good condition for the children

  • A wide snow pusher/shovel

  • A greenhouse for the garden plot (can be older/used)

  • A scratching post or climbing tree for two cats

Everything can be second-hand—the family highly values recycling and reuse!

We have already received one child’s bed—a big thank you to Helen Haljaste from Tallinn!

We also wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to Briketipoisid, whose support provided the family with fuel briquettes. This is a tremendous help to them.

At the end of October last year, a tragic accident occurred in the village of Ilmandu (Klooga mnt 51), Harju County. A fire completely destroyed the home of 60-year-old Margus and 52-year-old Klaarika—a house they had spent nearly 30 years building and renovating with their own hands.

It wasn’t just a house.

It was their life’s work.

They had established a garden around the home, created a small plot of farmland, and grew their own produce. All of it was destroyed in a matter of minutes.

Tragically, their mother perished in the fire, and all of the family’s worldly possessions were lost. Only the garage remained untouched by the flames.

There was no insurance

The house was over a hundred years old, and its restoration and various additions had consumed all of their income over the years. The thought of getting insurance kept being pushed forward… until the unimaginable happened.

Temporary housing, but an uncertain future

The local municipality has provided the family with a social apartment for one year to allow them time to recover from the shock and move forward. The local community has helped with essentials—clothing, dishes, and other necessities.

The family has two daughters who support their parents in every way they can, but their strength alone is not enough.

A new beginning: A small home, great hope

Margus and Klaarika understand that rebuilding a house of the same size is not realistic. Their initial goal is to acquire a small house (a “tiny house”) of approximately 60 m², which they could continue to build upon themselves in the future.

Currently, they are working on the design of the tiny house and are reaching out to the local municipality to receive at least partial support for laying the foundation.

They are not afraid of work. They have the will and the skills. They only lack the opportunity to start again.

How can you help?

Our goal is to collect donations and building materials so that Margus and Klaarika can begin constructing their small home.

At the beginning of June, we launched a project to help eight-year-old Ruudi, who lives in Harju County and has been battling a serious diagnosis for several years – acute lymphoblastic leukemia. For the past three years, Ruudi and his mother have spent much of their time in various hospitals across Estonia.

In May and June, the treatment reached a critical stage, when the boy underwent a bone marrow transplant. The family prayed and hoped for a miracle – and fortunately, thanks to the dedication of the doctors at Tartu University Hospital and the help of donors, the situation was brought under control. The following months were also spent in hospital, living one day at a time. Ruudi’s life was full of restrictions – even tap water was forbidden to him.

It was at this time that Ruudi’s mother turned to us with a request to help the family build a toilet and shower room in their house.

Thanks to the support of kind people, the bathroom was completed, and with the help of the local government, building materials were also provided. Our team found skilled workers – an electrician and a tiler – who did excellent work.

Since the family also had to connect to the city’s water and sewage network, an additional cost of about €3,000 was added. The old sewage pipeline was completely worn out, and the Environmental Board did not allow its continued use. Thanks to generous supporters, we found the company SanRec Eesti OÜ, which quickly and properly carried out all the necessary water and sewage works. The total cost of this work was €3,400.

The NGO Naerata Ometi has collected €900 for this project. One kind donor has promised to contribute another €1,400. However, the missing amount is still €1,100. Unfortunately, the local government was no longer able to provide additional support, as they had already helped the family with building materials.

The good news is that Ruudi’s health has improved significantly. He now goes to the hospital only once every two weeks for tests and can already attend school three days a week. We are once again reaching out to you to help complete a project that is very close to our hearts. Thanks to your previous support, we have already taken a big step forward in helping a hardworking young family living in Viljandimaa. However, one more joint effort is still needed for their dream home to be finished.

How did it all begin?

A few years ago, Marjata and Reio, together with their child, bought a small house in Viljandimaa with the help of their savings and an installment plan. It was their dream of owning a home. Unfortunately, the house was in very poor condition: the roof was leaking, the walls couldn’t keep out the wind, and the floors and stoves needed complete replacement.

But the biggest problem was that the house had no electricity. The previous owner had it cut off due to unpaid debts, and as first-time homeowners, the young couple had no idea how complicated and expensive it would be to get it reconnected.

Work done – incredible progress!

Despite the difficult start, the family didn’t give up. With their own hands, they have done an enormous amount of work: the roof has been patched, the walls reinforced, and new windows and doors installed.

Most importantly – thanks to you, dear donors, and hardworking volunteers, the largest part of the project has already been completed! Over 100 meters of cable trench has been dug, and the main power cable has been installed underground. It was a massive job, accomplished thanks to the community’s support!

A new challenge – the last obstacle on the way

Unfortunately, it turned out that the family does not qualify for any state or local support measures for connecting to the electricity grid – their situation falls exactly between the rules, which means they cannot receive help from official systems.

Right now, the family depends on power banks and a single solar panel, which is clearly not enough for everyday life. They are just one step away from a normal life, but that last step is too big without our help.

What else is needed to bring light into the home?

We are very close to the goal! To finally bring electricity to Marjata and Reio’s home, the following is still needed:

• Dig the last 35 meters of trench to the house.

• Purchase the necessary cables and install the electrical cabinet with circuit breakers.

• Pay the connection fee for joining the power grid.

In total, about €4,000 still needs to be raised.

Let’s make this final effort together and help this hardworking family finally have a real home! Every contribution is an important step closer to bringing them light.

Naerata Ometi MTÜ has been approached by a person in need, who has lived with severe pain for over 7 years and has been left in Estonia without the treatment they require. This is a complex case where the patient has cooperated with doctors for years, undergone numerous examinations, but still has not received a proper diagnosis or treatment.

The patient’s health issues are diverse – gynecological, proctological, spinal, blood and vascular problems. Living in pain for such a long time has also created the need for regular psychological support. Over the years, dozens upon dozens of repeated examinations have been carried out with Health Insurance Fund money (e.g. more than 25 MRIs of the pelvis, 20 MRIs of the spine, 6 CT scans), yet no actual treatment has been initiated.

Why is this project important?

The NGO has decided to support the patient in a legal dispute with the Estonian healthcare system, as it has broader social significance:

1. The Estonian healthcare system currently cannot ensure cooperation between specialties – for years, the patient has been sent from one doctor to another, without anyone taking responsibility for treatment or establishing the order in which care should proceed.

2. Large amounts of public money have been spent on expensive repeated examinations, but the patient has not received a diagnosis or treatment – highlighting systemic shortcomings.

A brief overview of the patient’s story

• Between 2017–2021, the patient went from doctor to doctor, but each specialist sent them elsewhere.

• In 2021, they attempted to seek legal help, but it proved too costly.

• In 2023, the patient turned to Naerata Ometi MTÜ, which consulted with a lawyer and tried to give the healthcare system another chance to resolve the situation.

• In 2024–2025, the patient visited PERH, where treatment coordination was promised, but once again limited to repeated examinations. No diagnoses or treatments were determined.

• Finally, PERH claimed the problem lay with the family doctor, which is not true – the family doctor has consistently sought help for years and requested specialist consultations.

Why turn to court?

The NGO and lawyers have concluded that there is no other solution – it is necessary to demand treatment and compensation in court.

Complaints and claims for damages alone will not make the patient healthy. A decision is needed that obliges healthcare providers to cooperate and offer the patient real medical care.

How can you help?

We need support to cover the costs of this legal dispute. Every contribution helps to:

• ensure that the patient finally receives justice and treatment,

• highlight important problems in the Estonian healthcare system,

• create a precedent that may help others in similar situations.

Ly has reached out to us with a heartfelt wish – to get a new wig that would give her confidence and allow her to feel comfortable in everyday life. Here is her story:

*”When I was only 8 months old, a tragic fire broke out in our home. I suffered severe injuries and, as a result, have had to wear a wig my entire life. Unfortunately, one wig lasts only about two years, and the current one has already become worn out and tired in appearance. Since I have to wear a wig almost all the time, it has become an irreplaceable part of my daily life.

The price of a new wig is more than I can afford – I am short of 1000 euros. For me and my family, this is a very large sum, but for me personally, it means the chance to feel confident every day and to live without constant worry about my appearance.

That is why I am reaching out to kind people with this request – every small contribution will bring me one step closer to a new wig.

Naerata Ometi MTÜ, in cooperation with other organizations and many wonderful volunteers, has organized several memorable camps for children in orphanages over the years. Although this tradition was paused for a while, thanks to the initiative of our colleague Heiki, this valuable effort has been revived.

This year marks the fourth camp at Päikesenurme. Additionally, two more three-day summer camps and one adventurous camp in Kihelkonna, Saaremaa, are planned. The first summer camp takes place before Midsummer’s Day, and the second at the end of the summer. At the beginning of the year, we also organized the winter Burxi camp.

The camps offer children meaningful time in nature:

• doing farm work and hands-on activities,

• participating in excursions and meeting professionals (e.g., police officers, rescuers),

• enjoying concerts, reading evenings, campfire nights, and night discos,

• reading poetry and going to the theatre.

All of this provides children with a valuable break from the urban environment and an opportunity to create wonderful memories.

So far, we have managed to organize camps with our own funds and the help of friends. We’ve been supported by friends from Finland and Norway and companies such as Leibur, Premia, and Rakvere Lihakombinaat, who have supplied us with food. This year, we also hope to involve you – our community and friends who care about children’s well-being.

The total cost for the three camps is approximately €5,000, of which €3,000 is covered by supporters from Finland and Norway. The remaining €2,000 would help cover:

• transportation and fuel,

• food and accommodation,

• tickets to museums, adventure parks, and other attractions,

• necessary supplies and first aid equipment,

• ferry tickets to Saaremaa.

Every contribution counts. If the full amount is not collected, we will adjust the activities to fit the budget – for example, replacing the adventure park with a nature hike. The main thing is that the camps happen and the children get to experience something special.

Let’s work together to make the children’s summer meaningful and joyful. Children are our future!

We are reaching out to you with a heartfelt request – to help an elderly man named Kalju from Tallinn, who needs support in restoring his dental and oral health.

Kalju’s neighbor contacted us, wishing sincerely to help him. Kalju is a modest and quiet man who lives alone without family. He doesn’t drink or smoke. His hobbies include fishing, reading, taking part in quiz games, and occasionally Nordic walking to stay in shape.

Kalju often says: “I don’t need anything, I’ll manage somehow.”
He is soon to retire and has worked his entire life as a security guard and warehouse worker. Unfortunately, he recently lost his job, and now he’s struggling – dental issues have arisen that are beyond his current means.

While he was working, Kalju managed to pay for his treatment himself, but now he is still 400 euros short of completing the care he needs to fully restore his oral health and confidently smile again.
