Let’s make Eeva and Einar’s home warm and safe

This project was created to help an elderly couple living in Lääne County, Eeva and Einar, whose home needs urgent repairs so that they can face the winter in a warm and safe environment. Their state of health and limited income make it impossible for them to carry out the necessary work themselves.

The problem: a cold room and winter at the door

Winter is coming, but in the home of Eeva (73) and Einar (75) in Lääne County the chill is already creeping into their bones. After Eeva’s severe stroke and Einar’s heart surgery their health is fragile, and their strength for keeping up the house ran out long ago. Their home, which should be a safe refuge, has become a source of worry.

We are facing three critical problems that need an immediate solution:

1. The stove is dangerous. The family’s old and non-functioning cooking stove has been prohibited by the Rescue Board on safety grounds. This means the family is heading into winter without a working heating solution.
2. The walls let the wind through. Two of the exterior walls of the house are completely uninsulated, leaving the living rooms cold and damp. This is especially harmful to the health of elderly people, who are already more susceptible to illness.
3. Moving around is difficult. Eeva, who gets around with a rollator, cannot get outside on her own because of the narrow and awkward front door, leaving her practically trapped indoors through the long winter months.

Because the family’s income is just above the subsistence threshold, they do not qualify for local municipal support, even though their real situation is very hard.

Our solution and the budget

In order to secure decent living conditions for Eeva and Einar, we have put together a clear action plan. For the whole project to succeed, our goal is to raise 3500 euros with the help of kind donors.

• A new Pioneer stove and its installation: ~€500
• Insulation materials for the exterior walls: ~€1000
• A new front door and materials for the access path: ~€1000
• Construction work and finishing: ~€1000
• TOTAL GOAL: €3500
