Every child deserves a place where they feel seen, understood and cared for. Twelve children in a special support group at Põngerjas kindergarten in Narva need extra support in their daily activities. Together, we can help create a calmer environment for resting, focusing and taking part.
A small group with different needs
The group includes children with visual impairments, speech and language difficulties, autism spectrum disorder and developmental delays. Noise, group activities, settling down to sleep or a busy environment can make everyday life more challenging.
The kindergarten would like additional equipment to better accommodate each child’s needs. For one child, this may mean a quieter space; for another, a way to rest or join an activity that suits them.
What is needed most urgently?
- 4 weighted blankets for children weighing approximately 30–35 kg. The kindergarten would like to use these to support rest time: some children currently need a great deal of direct adult support when settling down to sleep.
- 2 weighted vests for children weighing approximately 30 kg. These are intended for brief use during group activities, according to each child’s individual needs.
- 2 pairs of noise-reducing earmuffs. These are intended for children who find it difficult to take part in activities when noise is loud or persistent.
The weights above refer to the children’s body weight, not the weight of the blankets or vests. Suitability, the exact product weight and how it will be used must be confirmed with a specialist familiar with the child’s needs before purchase. Please coordinate any equipment donation with the project coordinator.
If the budget allows
- An acoustic desk panel to reduce surrounding distractions during individual and group work.
- A movable room divider to create flexible, quieter areas for rest time and other activities.
Working together for children and families
Põngerjas kindergarten’s mission is to give every child the opportunity to be happy and successful, taking their needs, abilities and interests into account and supporting their families. Its core values are health, innovation, child-friendliness and cooperation.
The kindergarten has sports and music halls, a robotics room and a speech therapist’s room. According to the information provided by the kindergarten, 72 children receive ongoing speech therapy support. This project focuses specifically on improving the daily environment of the group of 12 children.
